Sustainability: Small Steps, Big Impact

Sustainability: Small Steps, Big Impact

As a company, we're setting bold goals related to sustainability. Together, we will do our part to tackle the hardest environmental problems now, rather than leaving it to the next generation. Your small steps make a big impact, at work and at home.

What are you doing to be a good steward? Here's what we've heard from our Heritage family about how they are living more sustainably.

Our Sustainability Story: Envita Solutions

At Envita Solutions, our purpose is to protect human health and the environment and build a safer, more sustainable world. The Envita Sustain employee sustainability committee formed in 2022 to focus on sustainability in our 96th Street, Indianapolis office. Since then, we've implemented many small steps to make a big impact: In fact, our Indy Headquarters has achieved Zero Waste to Landfill status! Here's how: To divert waste for our employees, our office offers composting and recycling; reusable cups, mugs, utensils and dishware; and battery and electronic waste recycling. With the help of Envita beekeepers Rick Uren and Scott Condes, we have a beehive on the property, and we added a variety of native and pollinator plants to our garden in 2023.  The coolest thing: Our office operates an indoor aeroponic garden where a variety of vegetables, greens, and herbs grow for employee use year-round.

Our Sustainability Story: Heritage Construction + Materials

At Heritage Construction + Materials' office building in Indianapolis, we're taking small steps to make a big impact. We've installed motion sensor lighting in our conference rooms to reduce energy usage. Rather than offer bottled water in single-use plastic, HC+M employees have been given branded reusable water bottles. Recycling bins are stationed throughout the building, and printed documents are shredded and recycled by our vendor, Shred-It. We also collect batteries to recycle through Cirba Solutions.

Our Sustainability Story: US Aggregates

Like the Heritage Construction + Materials office, our US Aggregates building in Indianapolis is following The Center's lead in making changes to be more sustainable. We recycle paper and cardboard and we collect batteries and other electronic waste to be recycled. We've also removed single-use items from our kitchen. Instead of plastic water bottles, we have reusable branded cups. And, with the goal of eliminating aluminum cans, we're testing a new beverage dispenser for water and flavored water.
