Students consider AI 4 Good in the AI Challenge

Students consider AI 4 Good in the AI Challenge

I am really looking forward to our guest speakers this week in I-Think's Gr 6-12 AI Challenge. Students will hear from Kimetha Dunn, member of the UX design team for Copilot at Microsoft. What can someone involved in making a generative AI tool help us understand about AI?

Then we have several presenters from The AI4Good Lab at MILA - Quebec's Artificial Intelligence Institute and the world's largest academic research center in deep learning. Students will hear from Jennifer Addison, the project manager for the AI4Good Lab. If you haven't heard of the lab, they run a 7 week machine learning bootcamp every summer that equips women and gender diverse people to build their own machine learning projects. The program is designed to open doors for those who have historically been underrepresented in the AI industry, contribute to a more inclusive and diverse tech culture and to inspire the next generation of leaders to use AI as a tool for social good. We'll hear from 2 groups who participated in the bootcamp and who will share their AI for social good projects. Our students will be inspired!!!

We end the week with Maria Vamvalis, "Supporting communities, educators, institutions, leaders, networks, and organizations in co-creating equitable and regenerative pathways through crisis and complexity." who will help students understand the impact of AI on climate change as well as how AI can be used as a mechanism to address climate change - something new we have added to the Challenge this fall as it doesn't seem to be on the radar in education discussions about AI.

Like last week, I will post after each presenter to share what we learned!

Registration for the spring 2025 AI Challenge opens soon.
