Streamlining Data Integration: How Ribbonfish helped accelerate the Migration of Two Salesforce Systems

This is a case study about how Ribbonfish helped accelerate the migration of two Salesforce systems providing consistency and integrity in the configuration and minimising disruption to the business during the transition.

Who was this for?

This case study was for Ocorian .

Ocorian are an award-winning and independent provider of corporate and fiduciary services. Working with corporate and private clients, Ocorian have a dynamic culture that supports investment success enabling their customers to reach their strategic goals.

What was the problem?

Following a successful acquisition, Ocorian ended up with two Salesforce systems.

Their original one, running on Classic, and an additional one from the acquired business, running on Lightning.

Organic or acquisition-based growth can often result in multiple Salesforce instances used in the same organisation. This can lead to fragmented reporting and sales pipeline which impacts on a smooth integration. In some cases it can be a conscious decision to continue using multiple orgs, but most organisations benefit from unifying processes, systems and reporting.

The key challenges of this convergence project were:

  • Ensuring key design decisions were immediate
  • There was agreement on what was necessary and feasible in the first phase
  • From a technical perspective: aligning data, data fields, opportunities and drop downs in standard objects

What was our solution?

With a deadline of only eight weeks, it was decided to phase delivery and prioritise merging the Lightning version into the larger Classic instance.

This ensured continuity for the majority of the sales team and removed an immediate need to train on Lightning whilst bringing the benefits of convergence faster to Ocorian. The Lightning switch over came shortly after with time for training.

Ribbonfish already has a track record of successfully delivering multiple Salesforce convergence projects and has established an effective approach.

The frameworks developed by Ribbonfish to merge Salesforce instances ensures:

  1. Migration of data can be accelerated
  2. Consistency & integrity of target state configuration is maintained
  3. Minimised disruption to the production instance and to business continuity Read more about the Ribbonfish approach to Convergence in our Salesforce Convergence blog

What was the outcome?

The unification of the Salesforce systems facilitated company reporting, simplified system and data maintenance and paved the way for integration with other applications (especially ERP and marketing automation solutions).

The value delivered upfront made it easier to justify the second phase of the project which was the full upgrade to Lightning.
