"Social Skills" - Will they soon get redefined?
We often hear about of talk about how the next generation is always engrossed in their cell phones and social media life. Coming up on the horizon to replace those cell phones are Virtual Reality headsets and immersive content. It is entirely possible that in the near future we will see a person just stay in the VR world for days together and not choose to come out because she/he has a better chance at controlling their experience there than outside. Second Life (www.secondlife.com) gives a hint of what is coming soon. "Social Skills" as we know them will probably have a completely new definition in the next few years. A shy reserved person who is an introvert in real life may be leading a grassroots revolution for social change in Second Life. She/he may not have many friends in real life but thousands of followers in the virtual space giving them the kind of influence and power that is addictive; possibly even creating withdrawal symptoms when they come back to "real life"
