A sleek new look for the Microsoft 365 course portfolio

In February 2023, Microsoft announced changes to some of its certification portfolios, including Microsoft 365.

These changes ranged from renaming and retiring certifications to consolidating multiple exams into one, and has dramatically changed the portfolio. When compared to the expansive Azure and Dynamics 365 portfolios, it is clear Microsoft is keen to emphasise the importance of its cloud-based programmes.

"At Microsoft, we regularly review and update our portfolio of training and certification offerings to help ensure that they’re tightly aligned with workplace needs."

This move towards favouring more virtual, adaptable programmes will come as no surprise to anyone who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic - the sudden change to working remotely highlighted the many redundancies of non-collaborative programmes and applications.

So, what does the Microsoft 365 certification path look like now?

To start, it is a lot simpler.

There are half as many exams; previously, there was ten certificates which could be achieved at a Fundamental, Associate, Expert or Specialty level. Now, there are six certifications which directly align with an individual exam - and Specialty certifications have been completely removed.
