Final call for applications for the MA in Education with Early Years Focus
Our part time MA programme, accredited by Birmingham City University, is designed specifically for practitioners working in the early years sector and can be studied alongside and in support of your day-to-day role. The course draws upon CREC's research expertise and enables students to work within a community of practice. “I learnt so much during my time at CREC that has informed both my everyday practice and my broader approach to childhood. I also valued having a peer group and wonderful tutors to support me throughout ". (MA 2023-24)

BECERA 2025 | Birmingham | 17 Feb
Call for papers is now open
We are delighted to invite early years practitioners, researchers, academics and students to submit their research proposals for presentation at the 15th annual BECERA Conference. All submitted abstracts are reviewed by our scientific committee which not only screens for the quality of your research but also provides helpful notes to improve abstract writing. Presenting your research is an opportunity for a critical peer review; it is a great way to get necessary feedback to improve, develop or validate your piece of work. The deadline for proposal submission is Friday 13th December 2024. Accepted proposals will be clustered into symposia and delivered during our face-to-face conference in Birmingham on 17th February. This year's call for papers provides an opportunity to submit your proposal for presentation as either a poster or an oral presentation. You will be able to choose your preferred format by completing the abstract submission form. Please note: Abstract submission, or confirmation of your abstract being accepted does not automatically guarantee you a place at the conference, for which you will need to purchase a conference ticket.

Developing a partnership with UIN Surakarta, Indonesia
CREC hosted a return visit from Irfan Syaifuddin from Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta (UIN Surakarta) Indonesia. Last year, along with colleagues from University of Wolverhampton, Chris & Tony visited Surakarta as part of transnational research project on early years inclusion. During this visit CREC are pleased to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UIN Surakarta to explore future research opportunities, and to support Irfan’s latest research by connecting him with several Birmingham Nursery schools to learn more about how they use their outdoor environments effectively.
Thank you to Lillian de Lissa Nursery School, Highfield Nursery School and Shenley Fields Nursery School (all part of Birmingham Federation of Maintained Nursery Schools) for hosting visits and participating in this research.

Educators as Researchers for Educational Change
ECHO and Early Education are delighted to host their second researchful practice morning with keynote speaker Professor Chris Pascal. The event will take place at Bristol University on 5th October, 10:30 - 12:30.
Chris will evidence the importance of systematic and rigorous setting-based research on the quality of provision for our youngest children, recognising the value of real world, qualitative methodologies.
She will share examples of excellence in practice to show how informed practitioners can develop the pedagogical processes that enable young children to thrive, and flourish with ever greater fulfilment and well-being in their early years settings.
The CREC Summer Sunflower competition winners
Growing sunflowers had proven more challenging than anticipated. But despite little prior experience (for some), slugs, bugs and deer problems (for others) we all managed to submit an entry. The winner in each category was announced over a team meal in Brighton (EECERA 2024) and we celebrated with certificates and rosette ribbon badges, courtesy of our fabulous judges who we would like to thank for their freely given time, expertise and professionalism.
