Sales... without "selling" - Is it possible?
Last week, I released a video talking about the biggest mistakes that new influencers make on YouTube.
Today, I’m adding one more very important thing to that list.
I’ve worked with a lot of clients over the past couple of years, creating a solid lead generation strategy with their video content and turning their YouTube channel into an evergreen sales machine. Every so often, I get asked this question:
"What if I don’t have anything to sell?"
And my answer usually comes as a surprise for some.
You can still sell even when you don’t have a product or service, yet.
Just last Wednesday, I had a great messaging call with a new client to set up their content strategy.
We came to a conclusion that might surprise you…
One of the biggest ideas in my personal brand, Video Impact Profit, is literally profit. It’s right there in the name.
But it’s extremely difficult to drive a profit when you have nothing to sell yet!
So rather than quickly hash together something with little value that doesn’t genuinely help people, in this case my client’s audience and prospects, we decided to do things a little differently.
We came to the conclusion that the ultimate goal for their video content was NOT to make sales, but to educate and give their viewers value.
It’s kind of like learning to walk before you run - a highly profitable marketing strategy can escalate you, your business, employees, income, and family to towering heights… but running a good business is like running a marathon, not a sprint. And with a marathon, you start small and work your way up to amazing achievements - but going TOO fast can make you crash and burn.
Sorry for mixing metaphors - my point today is a little bit complicated so I had to draw some unique connections here. Anyways...
By doing this, focusing on educating their audience and giving value, they automatically grow their know-like-trust factor and increase their reputation.
Every video positions them as the expert in their industry and creates impact by providing knowledge that makes a difference in the lives of their viewers. By the time my client is ready to sell, their audience is ready to buy from them because the trust has been built so well that they become a lifelong consumer.
Expanding your reach, growing your visibility, and creating that connection with your audience is just as important, if not more, than always trying to make a sale - we’re building impactful, life-changing business after all, not buying lottery tickets.
So YES ABSOLUTELY, you can still build a business without a product or service (though keep in mind that you’ll need to sell something eventually).
