Safety as a Strategic Priority: How HOP is Strengthening Risk Prevention at WMC

At WMC, Safety isn’t just a rule—it’s one of our core strategic guidelines. We don’t see safety as a checklist; it’s a mindset embedded in everything we do. Through Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), we acknowledge that human error is inevitable, but serious incidents can be prevented when we focus on system improvements instead of individual blame.

Building Stronger Defenses with Bow Tie & SOD

In 2024, WMC trained all eight plants in Bow Tie & SOD methodology, reinforcing our proactive approach to risk prevention. These tools help us:

  • Bow Tie Analysis maps out hazards, identifies weak points, and strengthens safety barriers before an issue escalates.
  • SOD (Severity, Occurrence, and Detection) prioritizes risks based on impact and likelihood, ensuring we focus on the most critical areas.

By integrating these methodologies, we’re not just preventing mistakes—we’re building resilience into our processes.

Why This Matters

  • From blame to learning – Instead of punishing mistakes, we analyze why they happen and improve systems.
  • From rules to smarter processes – We design safer workflows, making it easier to operate without unnecessary risk.
  • From reacting to preventing – Proactively reinforcing the right barriers reduces operational failures.

The Road Ahead

As WMC continues to grow, our commitment to Safety remains at the forefront. We are strengthening our HOP approach through:

  • Ongoing training to keep safety principles top of mind.
  • Proactive risk assessments to anticipate and mitigate failures.
  • Open communication, ensuring every employee plays a role in continuous improvement.

By embedding Safety into our strategy, WMC is creating a stronger, more resilient work environment—one where safety, wellness, and operational excellence go hand in hand.
