RE:TV Recap - May

Every month on RE:TV, we revisit some of the inspiring organisations whose work we’ve highlighted over the last four years. This month’s RECAP takes in mushroom-based packaging, AI tools in restoration projects, climate smart forestry and a new fleet of electric buses.

We begin with exciting news from Magical Mushroom Company® . In collaboration with ICAX Ltd, they have crafted a sustainable packaging solution for two of our favourite things - plastic alternatives and low impact energy - in one tidy package.

Magical Mushroom Company are working with nature to create an eco-friendly alternative to polystyrene. The UK firm takes mycelium and combines it with agricultural by-products, such as hemp, sawdust, cork, or wheat, to ‘grow’ packaging of any size or shape.

Restor has added a new data layer that indicates global tree heights at an unprecedented one metre resolution. Developed by Meta and the World Resources Institute, the AI model enables more accurate monitoring of forest ecosystems at scale.

A collaboration between Crowther Lab | ETH Zurich and Google, Restor is a mapping platform for the fast-growing global restoration movement.

New England Forestry Foundation has launched their climate-smart forestry incentive programme. Backed by a $30 million USD Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities award from the USDA, this five-year project will support commercial landowners as they implement climate-smart forestry practices.

By developing a global standard for sustainable woodland management, New England Forestry Foundation are protecting the most biologically diverse ecosystems on land. Their Exemplary Forestry approach prioritises long-term forest health.

Roam has partnered with County Bus Service to introduce 200 electric buses to Kenyan roads by the end of 2026. They have also committed to supporting these new vehicles with additional charging depots.

Technology company Roam are revolutionising public transport. Developed and designed in Kenya, their vehicles are uniquely suitable for African terrain.

We'd love to have you come out again and see the work we've done! These are exciting times! 🌲🌳🌍❤️
