Relay Expansion and New Location
Relay, a cloud platform that helps frontline teams better communicate and track performance, announced the move of its corporate headquarters to Midtown Raleigh. Spurred by demand for upgraded communications solutions for frontline workers. Relay’s expanded location will be located in the Advance Auto Parts Tower, located in the North Hills Innovation District.
Over the last several years, Relay has experienced incredible growth that can be attributed to the company’s mission to bring technology to the deskless worker and solve communication pain points for industries with workers distributed across factory floors, warehouses, retail footprints, hotel properties, event, and entertainment venues to name several. In the past year, Relay has witnessed a massive increase in customers looking to equip employees with technology that drives operational efficiency.
Relay’s new location supports its rapid growth
A short drive from its current headquarters, the new location was chosen to support Relay’s rapid expansion. "Simply put, we are growing incredibly fast, and we need more space to support our scaling team. North Hills is the ideal place for the next phase of our growth, given its central location and breadth of amenities." Chris Chuang, CEO of Relay, said.
Relay’s corporate culture was a key element in choosing the new location
The larger offices and key location go beyond company growth to encompass Relay’s unique brand ethos. Chuang shared the company’s overall commitment to creating and sustaining connections among Relay team members. "A key tenet of our culture is to build authentic relationships with each other versus just being transactional colleagues, which is much easier to do when you connect outside the office as well, be it over a meal, workout, or walk around a vibrant area like North Hills offers."
A mission to support frontline teams drove massive growth
In early 2020 Relay shifted the company’s mission to focus on supporting frontline teams. Relay’s growth accelerated rapidly as a direct result. While much of the corporate world focused on shifting to accommodate a remote workspace, Relay instead chose to tailor its products and approach to an existing and underserved demographic.

“Our mission is to serve the 80% of the world’s workforce that don't sit at a desk. These billions of people work in industries like hospitality and healthcare, yet are shockingly still using pre-internet technologies like analog walkie-talkies. As a result, frontline leaders lack the data they need to improve their bottom lines,” Chuang said. He also explained that Relay is on a mission to “digitally transform” the way frontline teams work. Ultimately, Chuang said that Relay envisions a world “where every worker is connected with smart tools, and every frontline leader has the real-time data they need to improve their operations.”
New headquarters, new ideas
Relay’s new headquarters is strategically situated in the heart of the technology and research Triangle area. To accommodate the company’s growth, Relay has hired over 25 people in the last 12 months and continues to recruit new team members. Current job openings can be found here. The new headquarters will add an additional 10,000 square feet of office space leaving room for continuous growth with a plan to enable the company to double its headcount over time. The added room to grow in the new locations means there are even more ways for Relay team members to interact, connect, and continue to drive innovation within the company and industry.
It isn’t only a new address and location change, but a way for Relay team members to connect to spur new and updated ideas. "The new location will provide an environment where our teams can come together and collaborate to develop software to power the future of frontline work," Chuang said. He also shared some of the software features that are constantly being innovated by the Relay team including instant group communications, real-time indoor location tracking of people and assets, physical route optimization, workflow automation, worker safety solutions, and more.
Relay’s scope continues to grow and the company is already well on its way to unlocking the power of software for frontline teams across multiple industries. To date, Relay’s technology has equipped over 100,000 frontline workers across the country encompassing the hospitality, logistics, construction, education, healthcare, and other frontline industries. Relay’s impressive list of customers includes Kinseth Hospitality, Legends, Radisson, and Atrium Hospitality, among others.
