Project Success Criterion ....PMBOK ?, APM ?, PRINCE2 ?, Agile ?

It’s been 15000+ project management hours and 40+ sizable projects during my 17+ years of professional experience in IT & Telecom Industry and my take from my professional life is that It doesn't matter if someone follows PMBOK, PRINCE2 or Agile…..

Surprised!

Well what I am saying is that we should not forget that processes, tools and techniques are just there to help us deliver efficiently within constraints. So we should not be consumed too much in the delivery framework that at the end of the day we forget what's more important…...VALUE…...Yes that’s right….

Value…Value…Value

Our prime objective and focus should be on delivering as much value as we can to the Customer / End user in particular and to Society in general.

So what should we do? Should we dump processes and go hay wire? The answer is NO; just follow the principal of simplicity and don’t be a tool fanatic.

“Simple is The New Smart”

Be smart, mix and match tools from Agile and Waterfall to your advantage, always focus on outstanding work to deliver committed value instead of bragging what you have accomplished, respect everyone and treat people as human beings, become a persistent and keen listener, be very transparent and honest, set and calibrate expectations at all levels internally and externally, don’t micro manage instead micro monitor, make mistakes but never repeat them, stay calm or at least act calm J in situations and I am sure you will do just fine…

Good Luck!

Very nice approach! Very rightly conveyed that humans are meant to drive the tools/ frameworks, not them!
