Preparing Your Training Program for Year-End Success

As the year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on your institution's training program and prepare for a more effective 2025. Whether you're in leadership or serve as a trainer, it’s important to recognize the vital role that trainers play—not just by delivering content, but by ensuring consistency across branches, reducing compliance risks, enhancing employee engagement, and aligning training with organizational goals. For leadership, this means understanding the value of supporting skilled trainers who can drive performance. For trainers, it’s about continuing to evolve, ensuring your efforts make a measurable impact on the institution’s success. Together, both can strategically prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the coming year.

Trainers, here are four steps you can do to help your organization plan for 2025:

  1. Pull LMS Reports:

Review completion rates and scores from your LMS, identifying areas of high and low engagement.

2. Survey Results Review:

Analyze feedback from employee surveys about training effectiveness, focusing on trainers (SMEs), timing, topics, and engagement levels.

3. Update Training Modules & Tools:

Refresh outdated content, ensure compliance, and align training materials with your 2025 objectives. Make sure the training material incorporates all four learning preferences (Reading/Writing, Auditory, Visual, and Hands-On).

4. Prepare Findings for Senior Leadership:

Consolidate your data and feedback into a strategic plan for senior leadership to guide next year’s training initiatives.

How to Share the Results with Senior Leadership:

When preparing to present your findings, it's important to provide clear data, examples, and actionable steps. Here’s an example of how this can sound when discussing your training program’s performance and proposed improvements:

“As we wrap up the year, I’ve analyzed our training data and gathered insights from our LMS and employee feedback surveys. Here’s what we’ve found:

  • LMS Data: Our completion rate for product knowledge training was strong at 75%, but compliance modules only saw a 50% engagement rate. We recommend adjusting the compliance training content to include more interactive elements, which could boost participation in 2025.
  • Survey Feedback: Employees noted that the current training schedule is not always convenient, with some indicating that shorter, more flexible sessions would be more beneficial. For next year, we propose implementing 30-minute micro-learning sessions instead of the standard one-hour blocks.
  • Training Module Updates: We’ve identified that our cybersecurity training needs updating to reflect new regulations. Additionally, incorporating scenario-based learning into this module could increase retention and engagement.
  • Action Plan for 2025: Based on these findings, we recommend taking a strategic approach to improve engagement and performance. This includes revising the compliance module to reflect current regulations and make it more engaging, working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to refine training materials or bring in new facilitators if necessary, and reviewing the 2025 training calendar to optimize the timing and flexibility of sessions. Additionally, leverage your LMS’s course catalog to identify more dynamic content and create learning paths focused on key skills. Finally, evaluate your SME facilitators to ensure they are the right fit for delivering impactful training."
