PR Does Not Stand for Press Release

PR Does Not Stand for Press Release

When I started in the PR business, everything seemed to revolve around the press release. I have realized throughout the course of my career that the breadth and depth of Public Relations goes far beyond the press release – especially in our increasingly multifaceted media world. What we do is much more than this task.

  • PR is about helping a client unearth a clear and consistent message and communicating this message to the audiences who really need to hear it.
  • PR is about capturing and telling powerful stories that have a retelling ripple effect. In other words, stories once heard are retold over and over again by others.
  • PR is about navigating an organization through a tough issue and protecting and preserving a brand’s reputation.
  • PR is about helping make a significant community impact for the company you are advising.
  • PR is about telling the truth. It is about sound judgment and wise counsel.
  • PR is about helping a company communicate with clarity and integrity to their employees.
  • PR is about securing a big national story that demonstrates thought leadership and proven expertise.
  • PR is about thinking strategically as you anticipate needs for your client and provide smart communications solutions.
  • PR is about combining effective digital and creative tools to generate top-of-mind awareness.

In short, PR is not about press releases. It is so much more and, when done right, it can make a major difference in the overall marketing communications efforts of an organization.
