The Power BI desktop July 2019 feature summary is here:
I would like to introduce few reporting features in the Power BI desktop.
1. Icon sets for table and matrix
2. Percent support for conditional formatting by rules
3. Data colors support when using play axis on scatter charts
4. New Data transformation “Split by positions” in Power query editor
5. New filter pane experience
1. Icon sets for table and matrix: As part of this release now we have KPI icon sets for our table and matrix visual. This feature will let you set up rules for showing different sets of icons to show in your table and matrix.
You can find this new icon feature under the conditional formatting menu. You can enable this feature by going into format section of Table/matrix visual in formatting pane.
To add a conditional formatting icon set:
- Find the measure in the values section of the visual (a table or matrix)
- Click the menu next to the measure you want to apply conditional formatting.
- Select Conditional Formatting
- Select Icons
Once you select the Icons, you can see below options to set Icons for your conditions
Output:
2.Percent support for conditional formatting by rules
From the new updates, we can use Percentage also instead of number. They added a button to reverse (swap) the color order.
3. Data colors support when using play axis on scatter charts
Starting from this release, we can set the set data colors for the scatter chart while using Play axis.
4.A new data transformation added in Power Query Editor in this month release.
This new transformation can be found under the Split Column menu in the Home tab of the Power Query Editor ribbon.
Once you click on Split column “By Positions”, A window pops up, and you can specify the positions to which to split the text column.
5.New filter pane experience
With the new filter experience, report consumers can hover over the filter icon in the visual header to see a read-only list of all the filters or slicers affecting that visual.
Starting from this release of Power BI desktop, any new reports should automatically have the new pane enabled by default.
For the existing Power BI reports, you’ll still need to upgrade any existing report to the new pane through the Options dialog.
To turn on this feature in existing report in Power BI Desktop, you can go to File-> Options and settings->Options->Current File->Report Setting->Filtering experience, Select Enable the updated filter pane, and show filters in the visual header for this report
Similarly, To turn on this feature in Power BI service, go to Reports tab in the content list for a workspace, Select the Settings Icon, Enable the updated filter pane, and show filters in the visual header for this report under Filtering experience.
Features present in new filter pane:
1. Format and theme: Starting from this release, now you can have control over the look and feel of the filter pane. To achieve this, click on empty report canvas and Select the format section, you will able to see Filter Pane and Filter card, that will provide you lots of format options for your filter pane and filter cards.
2.Hide the filter pane: By default, new filter pane will be enables, but you can hide them by clicking on eye icon next to filter.
3. Lock and Hide Filters: You can lock and hide the Filters in New Filter panel, so that you can make sure report consumers can see those filters but they will, not able to modify it.
4.Sort filters: Custom sort functionality is part of the new filter pane experience. Report creators can drag and drop filters to rearrange them in the order they desire.
5.Rename the filters: You can rename the filter as part of new filter pane experience. Select the filter card, right click and Rename
