Please read before approaching me for work

Useful information for recruiters and technical people looking to employ my services

Hi there!

First off, thank you for your interest and especially for taking the time to read the text below before approaching me.

I'm potentially interested in subcontracting front-end or full-stack development work (heavily leaning towards front-end).

I found myself writing the same information times and times again, so I thought I should put a few key points here. I'm sure it will save us both a lot of time and ensure the fact that we're on the same page before going further.

Who am I, in a nutshell

A full-stack developer from Bucharest, Romania, EU, with 20+ years of experience.

Curious by nature, an avid reader of fantasy, fiction, history & tech-related literature, always looking to expand my skillset and horizons, to understand how things work and to make them work better.

Author of 📒Mantine DataTable✨tRPC-SvelteKit🌐IISExpress-Proxy and other open-source projects.

Owner of swapp.ro.

Before asking me for a CV, please consider that my LinkedIn profile is available at linkedin.com/in/icflorescu; I've kept it up-to-date and it's quite comprehensive.

But it would mean so much more to me if you could take a look at my GitHub profile (github.com/icflorescu) to learn more about the open-source projects I've built or contributed to.

Mentioning that you've seen my GitHub profile would:

  • tell me that you know exactly what you need me for (as opposed to just trying to fill a vacant role)
  • let me know that my skills would indeed be valuable for you, which would spare us both valuable time that we'd otherwise have to spend trying to assess
  • help me prioritize your message and come up with a quicker reply

What's my current tech-stack

If you're interested in using my services, please consider that I'm most productive with these technologies, frameworks and libraries:

  • Typescript/JavaScript
  • Node.js
  • React/Next.js (see UI frameworks I've been working with below) but I'm also interested in Svelte/SvelteKit
  • tRPC — I'm a contributor and also the author of ✨tRPC-SvelteKit
  • Prisma, PostgreSQLHasura
  • NextAuth
  • Firebase (mostly firebase-auth)
  • SQL in general; I have experience in designing enterprise DB architectures while working for multinational companies in the past
  • I have a few CSS tricks up my sleeve, a good understanding of the DOM, I'm fluent with CSS-in-JS, SASS/CSS-Modules, Emotion and I'm even good-enough at creating website/application designs from scratch (see some examples below).

React UI Frameworks I've been working with:

Some things I've designed and built from scratch:

Things I've worked with, back in the Middle Ages

I'm working since my first university years, which means I've used and played around with lots of technologies. Some of them aren't that interesting anymore, but I'll list them here so you can make an idea regarding my background. Also worth noting that there were different times when I first started studying the art of software & web development. There were hardcover printed books and we were learning in-depth about things like design-patterns & anti-patterns, OOP, building solid software and system architectures. In relation to code, here's what I used in the past:

  • PHP & MySQL, around y2k (yeah, I'm that old)
  • Java/J2EE, .NET/C#, Oracle, SQL Server, BizTalk, cca. 2002—2007
  • CoffeeScript & IcedCofeeScript, back when JS had no async/await
  • Quite a few templating languages such as Mustache or Jade/Pug and some strange old JS frameworks (BackboneRiot.js) in the pre-React era

Notable open-source projects I've built over the years

  • 📒Mantine DataTable — a "dark-theme aware" table component for your Mantine UI data-rich applications, featuring asynchronous data loading support, pagination, multiple rows selection, column sorting, custom cell data rendering, row context menu, and more
  • ✨tRPC-SvelteKit — an adapter allowing you to build end-to-end typesafe APIs with tRPC.io in your SvelteKit applications
  • 🌐IISExpress-Proxy — A simple, yet practical command-line utility enabling .NET developers to test web applications served by IIS Express on remote devices; it's been around since 2015, but I'm amazed by the sheer number of people who still have to use IISExpress nowadays
  • 🛠️ASPAX — a simple Node.js asset packager inspired by Rails, in 2013, when Webpack didn't exist
  • ⚙️Node.jsMongoDBPostgreSQL & MySQL cartridges for Redhat's OpenShift, in 2015-2015, when Docker wasn't yet a wide-spread tool

The long(er) story

You can find my full-length Resume/CV/(boring obituary :-) on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/icflorescu, but here's the blurb:

  • 20+ years of experience in web and software development
  • I've worked for various companies (from mid-sized to large multinationals such as Allianz and Garanta — member of National Bank of Greece) during the initial part of my career; for the last part I've been working as an independent developer
  • I sometimes write(/rant :-) about technology and its impact on human behaviour in articles like these;
  • Though I'm first and foremost a web/software developer, I also have an interdisciplinary background. Here are just two examples: I earned part of my relative financial independence working in real-estate investments around 2007, and my written English is good-enough to have been able to do co-editing for a fantasy novel.

Hobbies, likes & dislikes (if you care)

  • ❤️ open-source, lazy mornings, good coffee, trekking in the mountains
  • 👎 hypocrisy, xenophobia, people talking bullshit

Thank you very much for reading. If you've reached this point, I'm looking forward to hearing from you. So, don't hesitate to drop me a message!
