Perstorp continues to upgrade the caprolactone industry structure in the UK

Swedish chemical producer Perstorp continues to make progress in the upgrade of the caprolactone plant in Warrington, England. The project will be completed in the second half of 2019. The project will require the installation of new peracetic acid distillation equipment and new reactors to achieve higher yields and promote expansion and breakthrough capacity bottlenecks.

The company upgraded for the first time in 2011 and added a second production line. The latest phase of work will begin sometime this year and is not expected to interfere with its ongoing production. To a large extent, this will require the removal of most of the original plants built in the 1990s and reconstruction at the same location.

At the heart of the upgrade is the installation of a new peracetic acid distillation unit, as well as a new reactor to achieve higher yields, and to promote caprolactone capacity expansion and bottleneck breakthroughs. The company uses this product to create capa brand high molecular weight linearity polyester.

The company earlier said that further improvement of plant safety is also one of the goals of ongoing work. The company explained that adopting the most advanced technology and information systems will mean less manual intervention in the future.

Stephen Lewis, vice president of the caprolactone business unit, said the company sees strong confidence and demand among its customers, especially a range of derivatives sold under the Capa thermoplastics and Capa polyol brands.
