Personality types.. So what's it all about..
Hopefully you’ve heard of Myers-Briggs.. If not check it out, it’s interesting stuff.. I heard about it many years ago but never paid too much interest, however I’ve been reading some books and ‘googling’ about it recently..
The theory effectively states that all of our personalities have 4 different attributes, which vary in extremism: Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), Intuitiveness (N) or Sensory (S), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)… So in essence all of the world’s personalities can be broadly grouped into 16 types..
I’m an ENFJ with a strong emphasis on the F, and the descriptions I read on the internet are scarily accurate!!
What are you?? And does the description resonate? I’ve also analysed some people I know to work out their combinations (from my perspective), and again, the internet descriptions sound scarily accurate of the person I see…
Why is this important… if we think about other people’s personality types then we can understand them better.. and build better connections.. (and connections are what make the world go round!!)…
That person who you perceive as ‘cold’ and distant, is just a Thinker (T). They are very logical in their decision making and do not typically show their emotions openly.. It doesn’t mean they are horrible people or don’t like you!
That person who doesn’t speak up in a meeting is actually just an introvert (I) who ‘thinks before they speak’… Often a good thing :o) Ask them for their opinion, I’m sure they’ll have an interesting perspective..
That person who you think rambles on and talks in minute levels of detail about everything is just a sensor (S) they see the world in a different way to you and notice every detail…
Understanding of personality type will help you see the world very differently.. So why not have a ‘google’ of Myers-Briggs and see what you discover.. alternatively I read this brilliant book called “The Art of Speed Reading People: How to Size People Up and Speak their language” by P.Tieger…
What’s your views regarding personality type.. and do you have any tips for quickly spotting specific types?? And do you find other methods more useful than Myers-Briggs??
Oh .. and don’t forget to follow my blog as I plan to post regularly :o)
