Part 3: Planning Your Creation
Thanks to everyone for the amazing feedback on these entrepreneurship articles. I had no idea this many people would be contacting me for additional information. Let’s continue our journey down the rabbit hole!
With your Idea seeds starting to germinate, it is time to think about as many aspects of your idea as possible. Drum roll please. Ladies and gentlemen please welcome…all the way from your own built in neural networks…the coveted Creation Plan!!!
It is important to note that a Creation Plan (sometimes referred to a business plan) relates to anything that you will spend your precious time on cultivating. With my previous startups, I absolutely loathed writing a creation plan. I always thought “Why in tarnation’s am I spending my precious time writing down my thoughts/research/innovations to share with an audience?” Internal monologue continues… “I am a born salesperson, just give me 5-10 minutes with anyone and they will be buying what I am selling!” It wasn’t until one of my mentors graciously pointed out that “Hey Beau…you bonehead, creation plans really aren’t for anyone else. They force you to understand as many different facets of your idea seed that you are trying to bring to life.”
As you write your own creation plan, the process will force you to concisely present the identified problem/opportunity and your solution. An additional key aspect of the creation plan must communicate how you and your team will have enough motivation to create something new that will improve tomorrow.
I have written and reviewed many creation plans from entrepreneurs to full IPO prospectus' and have found that there are no length requirements required to create an engaging creation plan. Some plans may be the length of a short novel due to the complexity of the market space and others only a couple of pages. When creating yours, spend the appropriate word count to say what you need to say and no more.
The creation plan table of contents below is what I believe are the minimum (and maximum for that matter) number of sections that should be presented to your audience. Going into detail on each of these sections lies outside of the purpose of this current article series and I guarantee it would be too much to digest in one sitting. I will be creating an additional article series that focuses on what should be included in each section for your reading pleasure:)
You have developed your motivation to create, planted your idea seed and have a creation plan in place. Other than just waiting for the Benjamin’s (Bordan’s in Canada) to roll in, what should you do next?
Tune in next time to learn about how to identify and gather your resources to support your growth!!!

6yGreat simple advice from a guy who has done it. I remember him with the seed of an idea. It seemed an unsurmountable problem. He and his team did it all !
