Pain That Sustains

Pain That Sustains

I recently read about some of the people who were affected by Sandy Hook and the school shootings in Florida. These events were just awful and unimaginable tragedies; however, these events were real and happened. It was not just the awful violent acts, but the days that have followed since.

When people have such awful experiences in life, they can have sustaining long term affects. We have heard about PTSD and its lasting effects. Well, the effects have tested all of the victims capacity for mental pain and anguish. Hearing that survivors have now gone the distance to deal with pain and then let the same pain cascade into suicide saddens me. I am crying as I write this note. Few of us can imagine the depth of pain any of these people have been through.

Why am I writing about this? Well, you see, it is pain I can some how feel…….touch…..and oddly almost understand. I have not had these awful experiences….maybe we can say I have had my own version of them. Pain can move in many directions and steal your soul…..your ability to like yourself and often induce paralysis.

Happiness can be found in a few simple places. Here they are:

·        Go watch the sunrise – I do this everyday

·        Spend time by the ocean or a lake and smell the water and feel the air hitting your face

·        Allow yourself to smell the roses or flowers when you have a small success

These are the small things that do sustain. Bad things happen to such good people and that can easily be fixed. It is our jobs as humans to remind each other good does exist. It all comes in different ways and can be seen through a nice wide vernacular. Life is good and can be great when we OPEN are eyes wider than they are meant to be😊
