New ACO Coalition
A new ACO alliance of 10 Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) has launched with a focus on improving models of care for the most complex Medicare beneficiaries in a High Needs ACO model.
The Global and Professional Direct Contracting model launched under President Trump Administration, now known as ACO REACH includes a High Needs model. ACO REACH is set to expire on December 31, 2026, with many urging for its continuation.
“ACO REACH is one of the most promising models for patients with serious illness,” said Jon Broyles, CEO of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC). “We cannot let it sunset in 2026. That’s why we’re supporting the launch of the Complex Care Alliance.”
According to CMS data, 14 High Needs ACOs saved about $143 million in 2023, a 13.3 percent net savings rate. How much of this savings was actually attributed to HCC coding improvements has not published. Some healthcare analysts are speculating this is a way for ACO REACH program participants to spin off their sicker (High Needs) patients to achieve better savings rates as these patients generally cause greater spend.
10 ACOs and others including:
The National Association of ACOs, Accountable for Health and America’s Physician Groups are just three of the 10 ACOs that are part of the newly formed Complex Care Alliance.
