No Mouse Challenge: Simple but Critical for Keyboard Navigation

This No Mouse activity simulates what it is like to navigate the web with a physical disability where users cannot operate computer's mouse. This activity directly tests for the second principle of operability under the WCAG2.1 and is an easy check for web accessibility:


  1. Use a web browser to navigate to your company or school web site (or another site you use regularly)
  2. Do not use a mouse to navigate the site, only use the keyboard shortcuts below:
  3. Press Tab to move to the next link, form element or button.
  4. Press Shift + Tab to move to the previous link, form element, or button.
  5. Press Enter or space bar to activate the current link or button.
  6. Use arrow keys, Escape, or other keys if doing so would seem to make sense.
