Most Times, It Is All About Timing
Addendum: The people who sat next to us and did not help was because the woman had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. Being exposed to any type of illness could be fatal, and I only realized that when the doctors came to put her in a room. Thus, I realized that indeed I had unfairly judged them and ask forgiveness.
Today, started out with me being in need. That has not changed, but my perspective and gratefulness has been transformed, and for this I am thankful. I am writing this not in praise of my ability to shift, but so that everyone can use this opportunity for introspection, and for some prayers.
I am in the emergency room and was taken back to the urgent care area. A woman came in with her two daughters and said she had to use the bathroom. She told her daughters to call their dad to come and pick them up and on speakerphone he said he was busy because he just returned to work.
So, their mom told them to call someone else who I thought was their grandmother. The person on the phone asked the girls where they were, they said Tyson Corners. I corrected them and told them where they were.
Then their mother passed out. I thought she was having a seizure, and I tried to wake her up. Her daughters were trying to wake her up as well but could not. I told them to call their dad again, but he wouldn’t pick up despite several attempts.
As the daughters became hysterical, I got up and saw that the woman was bleeding profusely and that a pool of blood puddled at her feet as it ran down her pants and began to stream down the hall. I was traumatized but having been a young child witnessing my mother in deathly distress, I could relate. My first instinct was to protect the girls from seeing their mother in such a condition, and to assure them that their mother would be okay, and I added in faith that she would not die.
I told the oldest girl to go and find someone and for the younger daughter to call her grandmother. Turns out was the babysitter and I took the phone and explained the situation just a doctor "happened" to turn the corner. When she was unable to wake their mother, and saw the gravity of her situation, they rushed her into emergency surgery. I continued to comfort the girls until a nurses' aid could take them back to calmed them further.
Later they were picked up and seemed much calmer, they even smiled as they thanked me for helping their mother. Though everyone thought that I was a family member, I was not related beyond being a human being, a mother, and a daughter.
The reason I came to the emergency room pales by comparison, and only then did I realize why I had procrastinated the night before and all day. Though I was suffering with discomfort, if I had not waited to go to the emergency room, and though it didn’t make sense to my family and friends; it had now become clear.
Had I arrived earlier or later, I would not have been at the hospital the exact moment this mother and her two daughters walked in. Had I not been sitting next to her, I would not have realized she passed out. Had I depended upon the couple sitting next to me to intervene, when they made no move to do so, their mother would probably have died in that plastic chair in an emergency room hallway. Glory!!! I was used by God and I pray it made all the difference.
Please lift this family up in prayer and pass this experience on. The power of prayer and the knowledge that our words go forth into the universe manifesting evil or good, should inform our every word and action, so let us together pray for these little girls, their mother, and all who love them. Amen! Amen! Amen!
