In response to questions about the BTL project, I finally got around to putting out a short pdf overview. Lifted from it...
The following working hypotheses are a partial framework for the project:
- Human primate evolution has produced a species that is highly social, has a propensity for social hierarchy, and is both emotional and cognitive in the sensemaking of its environment.
- Evolutionarily wired human behaviors collectively exist in all humans at a more fundamental level than the recently evolved human cultural level. (EP vs SSSM)
- These behaviors supported and brought about a fundamental shared morality at the evolutionarily wired human level that is a common moral foundation to wide cultural expressions.
- The problem triad of individual human behavior; which is expressed collectively in human institutions; and is fed by highly developed human cognitive abilities; is a complex and “wicked” problem that has actionable solutions.

- We are wired to first look for threats in everything. Managing that reaction isn't easy. The quote is so good I have to share this congruent BTL thinking should you not get to it. It's been a really interesting middle-of-summer month. A lot of intellectual ferment in the midst of these increasingly hot days. But that's another story.
