MIKADO Employee Spotlight: Brittany Tran

What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing, and how has your journey been so far?

My interest in marketing and storytelling began in high school, led by my involvement in various activities. An anchor for the morning announcements, a yearbook editor and school photographer, I discovered the power of media to capture and tell stories. My roles as class treasurer and a co-founder of the Asian American club, ASIA (Asian Students In Action!), further fueled my desire to connect with others and shape stories that resonated personally.  The kid who immigrated traveled to the Texas state capital to receive the President's Award for Community Service! That experience was eye-opening: it showed me that my curiosity could lead to recognition and impact. It furthered fueled my desire to connect with others and tell stories that resonated personally and professionally.

Over the past 15 years, this passion has driven my career from producing commercials in Asia to leading creative projects at Netflix and ultimately founding my own company, Good Hause. Every project has been an opportunity to build meaningful connections and help founders tell and amplify their stories to the world.

I am excited to continue growing and learning alongside the industry and amongst my super-talented colleagues doing the day-to-day work at MIKADO. The expansion of art, movies, films, digital content, and social narratives provides endless opportunities to understand each other better.

What do you enjoy most about your role in our agency, and how do you bring your unique perspective to the work you do?

What I enjoy most about my role at our agency is the chance to innovate and strengthen connections between brands and their audiences. I'm currently leading the development of a new social team, a vital asset in any industry. It’s challenging work, but the impact is significant.

My unique perspective comes from extensive experience in diverse markets. I've managed everything from large-scale commercial productions to intimate social media storytelling, understanding how to adapt a high-budget commercial approach to smaller, more targeted visual campaigns. This versatility allows me to develop marketing strategies that truly resonate with diverse audiences. I can craft briefs that convince our team, impress clients, and captivate audiences, ensuring that each campaign we launch is both meaningful and effective.

How do you stay creative and motivated in your work, and what strategies do you use to overcome challenges?

To keep my creativity and motivation high, I continuously seek new learning opportunities and embrace challenges that push the boundaries of my expertise. I maintain a flexible approach to problem-solving, swiftly adapting to new situations. When facing obstacles, I draw on my community for inspiration: my family and friends! And when I need to reset, I retreat to my millennial oasis of homemaking—cooking, gardening, and spending time with the plants, trees, and fruit. Nothing like a good plant stare to clear the mind! I also enjoy watching movies, spending time with friends, and trips to the trampoline park with my daughter and husband keep me refreshed. Even a face plant during our last visit turned out to be the most fun I've had in a while! These moments away from work help me return with a renewed spirit, ready to tackle whatever comes next.

If you could switch places with one fictional character for a day, who would it be and why?

If I could switch places with one fictional character for a day, it would be with a character played by Awkwafina. Her roles are often funny, witty, and professional, mirroring how she continuously pushes the boundaries of her creativity through new shows, movies, and performances. This aligns with my own aspirations to innovate and bring fresh perspectives to my work, keeping it humorous and keeping it going despite challenges.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to enhance your work?

If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to instantly understand and speak any language fluently. This would enhance my work by allowing me to communicate and connect with people without barriers, making the ideas I design even more inclusive and effective.
