Mercy’s IT Team Named One of the Nation’s Best

Mercy Technology Services (MTS), the IT backbone of Mercy, is recognized as one of the nation’s “Best Hospital IT Departments” by Health IT News. MTS was one of only five winners in its size category and among 20 health IT groups recognized nationwide.

To qualify for the recognition, at least 50 percent of MTS’s staff had to complete an online satisfaction survey. With their survey responses, technology co-workers weighed in on a variety of factors that influence workplace morale, including training, benefits, leadership and innovation.

A few ways Mercy’s IT department sets itself apart are through its award-winning training program, gifting eight hours of paid volunteer time to each IT co-worker and by providing a new prayer chapel where co-workers of all faith traditions can pause and reflect – the two latter being initiatives that grew out of co-workers’ requests.

“Working at Mercy is really something special, and this award reflects that,” said Gil Hoffman, MTS’s chief information officer. “The team is here for the chance to make a difference in the people’s lives.”

“Combine that with their technical talents, a mission, history and culture that bond us together like family and a desire to take patient care to new levels and you’ve got a health care homerun,” said Hoffman. “That’s what this team is all about.”
