Marketing for small and medium-sized architecture firms can be a challenge.

If you’re an organisation with limited resources, it’s important that any marketing work you do makes the biggest impact.

1. High-quality visuals

Trying to carry out any sort of marketing for your architecture firm won't be anywhere near as effective without using stunning photography and other high-quality visual elements.

Rendered three-dimensional CGI is the perfect tool for showcasing prospective clients or projects that are in the early stages.

Invest in high-quality photography and video (including drone footage) for completed projects or developments.

Build up a bank of images you can use to effectively promote your practice through your website, printed brochures, event branding and social media.

2. Your website

Your website should provide visitors with all the information they need to decide whether to contact you about their project.

You should include details about where you're based and where you operate, what type of work you do (e.g. commercial or residential, master planning or new build) which industry sectors you specialise in, and most importantly, evidence of your work.

You could showcase your work in a gallery or by using case studies, and of course, you'll be making use of your exceptional images.

3. Social media

Social media can be a highly effective marketing tool for architects - if it's used in the right way.

If a potential client comes across social media accounts that haven't been updated for months, it doesn't give off a very good impression of your business.

Work out which platforms you'll get the most exposure from, and how often you'll need to update them.

Making a content calendar is a great way to manage your social media. A diary of what you're posting, when and on what platform can save your team valuable time and money.

4. LinkedIn and Houzz

These two social media platforms deserve a special mention when it comes to marketing for architects.

Houzz

According to their own website, Houzz is "the best way to get inspired, discover products and to find and collaborate with the perfect architect, designer or contractor."

With a community of more than 40 million homeowners and professionals using Houzz, it is the social media network that architecture firms should be leveraging.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great place to build a professional network of contacts and build your profile in the marketplace.

You can use LinkedIn to establish your expertise in your field, so every person in the company should have a LinkedIn profile and use it build authority amongst their network of contacts.

5. Collaboration

As well as using your website and social media to raise your brand profile, you can support this by collaborating with others - both online and offline.

Attending events - either specific to the industry, or more general networking events - is the ideal way to meet like-minded people, build strong industry connections or meet a variety of different business owners.

At many events, you'll also have the opportunity to obtain a speaking slot, which is your chance to talk to the whole room and make a lasting impression.
