March/April Digest: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Limb Loss and Limb Difference Month, Cybersecurity and Giving Back to Community
Alternative Dispute Resolution
At Minster Law, we have been exploring and testing the numerous Alternative Dispute Resolution options available since early 2022. We strive to be a progressive law firm in our sector, with the ability to imagine and pioneer new and exciting approaches to the benefit of our customers and stakeholders.
Figures published by Ministry of Justices showed that the average duration between the commencement of litigation and trial for Small claims is 55.8 weeks, while for Fast/Multitrack claims, it is 85.7 weeks. The collaboration between Minster Law and Nuvalaw has opened the door to offering our customers the ability to settle disputed quantum claims via an independent arbitrator within just 10 days. This reduction in claim lifecycle has benefits for all the parties involved, the party that is no longer needed, and additional secondary benefits to the society at large.
“A law firm’s first duty of care is to the customer, including consideration of all viable options to progress a customers’ case. We also have a duty to ensure that court resources are used properly. ADR has the capability to become a key component of settling volume claims and at Minster Law we are glad to be leading the way. ” Terry Crane
April: Limb Loss and Limb Difference Month
April is Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month; a time to recognise those living with limb loss and raise awareness for limb loss prevention.
Suffering an amputation due to an accident is a life-changing event that affects not only physical well-being but emotional and financial stability as well. For those facing this challenge, pursuing a personal injury claim can provide necessary compensation to cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, and emotional distress.
At Minster Law, we are committed to providing bespoke, client-centred rehabilitation to fit the needs of the injured person. It is not a one size fits all situation. The claims process should not only cover physical recovery but also address the mental health and emotional toll of the injury.
"For those who have suffered limb loss and are pursuing a legal claim; it is so important that we, as the legal advisors, take the time to fully understand and acknowledge not only the day-to-day difficulties people with limb loss face but also what makes each individual tick, including understanding what it is they enjoyed doing before their accident and what is important to them post-accident." Edel Selby
Protecting Your Information: Top Tips for Staying Safe Online
Cyber security is a top priority in today’s digital landscape, particularly in the legal sector where sensitive client information is paramount. At Minster Law, we recognise the importance of staying ahead of emerging threats to protect our clients’ data and maintain operational integrity. Our IT service team leader, Jordan Bracken, shares some essential tips for enhancing cyber security.
"The best way to avoid these is to always be cautious, should anything seem too good to be true, try contacting the sender via a second method of communication so you can verify whether the initial contact was due to the sender being compromised or not." Jordan B
Giving Back to the community
At Minster Law, we are committed to giving back to our community through various initiatives. Recently, our Fast Track MOJ team participated in a meaningful project at Newmillerdam, where they worked together to create a haven for wildflowers by clearing logs and debris and building a new fence to protect the area, enhancing both the beauty of the location and its safety for future generations.
In addition to environmental projects, we actively support local charities such as FareShare Yorkshire and Trussell , addressing food poverty by donating food and necessities and providing voluntary work in food bank centres.
All of our colleagues are encouraged to participate in volunteering activities, with each having the opportunity to take a paid "Giving Back" day annually. This commitment to CSR is integral to our culture, reflecting our dedication to creating outcomes that matter, both to our community and the environment.
