Live Build AI | March 24, 2025 | Custom GPT Setup Guide

Hi all! In this edition of LiveBuildAI, we're going to focus on building a simple custom GPT. If you already know how, feel free to skip this. However, in the links below there are tools you can use to multi-chain prompt and make it even more efficient!

Custom GPT Setup Guide

Overview

Custom GPTs are personalized versions of ChatGPT that you can build using the Custom GPT Builder if you have a Plus account. They allow you to upload data, narrow your range of topics, and extend your reach by tapping into the power of AI and specific intent.

Anyone can create a Custom GPT if they have a Plus plan, but everyone can browse Custom GPTs made by others on the GPT Store by clicking "Explore."

Output of a Custom GPT

  1. The GPT will generate a custom GPT based on your preferences.
  2. You can edit and make additional prompts to refine your GPT.
  3. The final GPT will be available to you privately, with options to create a shareable link or publish it to the GPT Store.

Process to Create a Custom GPT

Follow these steps to create your own Custom GPT:

Step 1 – Login

  • Go to the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of ChatGPT and click "My GPTs".

Step 2 – Option 1

  • Navigate to the "Create" tab and type your prompt. The system will populate itself based on your input.

Step 2 – Option 2 (Recommended)

  • Go to the "Configurations" tab.
  • Enter the details manually (see the Configurations section below for details).

Step 3 – Optional Enhancements

  • Use a custom instruction generator to optimize your system instructions.
  • Use a knowledgebase architect to create a list of downloadable files for your GPT.

Configurations

When setting up your Custom GPT, you’ll need to configure the following settings:

  • Name: The name of your assistant.
  • Description: What your GPT will do (general purpose).
  • System Instructions: How it will act (specific commands).
  • Knowledge Base: Files you want the GPT to understand.
  • Conversation Starters: Things to help users get started (prompts). File Search: Enable to allow the GPT to read documents you upload (browse). Code Interpreter: Enable to create scripts in the sandbox (build). Canvas: Enable to allow split-screen for work (productivity).
  • Action Schema: Things the GPT can do externally (requires scripting and deployment). Examples: Login to Gmail and send an email. Upload a file to Drive. Make a log entry in a CRM.

Recommended Custom GPTs to Integrate

To enhance your Custom GPT creation process, consider integrating the following pre-built Custom GPTs:
