Let's talk about EBS volumes

> EBS means Elastic Black storage.

> It is a root volume in which OS will be run

> EBS can also called as persistence

persistence: if you stop or reboot then data will not be deleted.

> if you terminate then it will be deleted.

> Basically EBS we are going to attach with Network.

N/W attached is slow then physical attached.

#EBS:

> Its a Raw, unformatted, external block storage that you can attach to EC2 instance.

> EBS attached to EC2 through the AWS Network, like a virtual Hard drive

> Multiple EBS volumes can be attached to a single EC2 instance.

> But can attach a single EBS volume to instance once at a time.

> EBS volumes classified into two types.

> 1. SOLID STATE DRIVE (SSD)

> Again SSD will have two types

  1. General purpose SSD: for general usage without specific requirements.
  2. Provisioned IOPS SSD: when you require really fast input & output.

> 2. HARD DISK DRIVE (HDD)

> Again on HDD three types

  1. Throughput optimized HDD: Magnetic drive optimize for quick throughput.
  2. Cold HDD: lowest cost HDD volume for infrequently access workload.
  3. EBS magnetic: previous generation HDD.
