January 2023 Issue: A Case for Collaboration in Short-Term Rental Management

Welcome to GovOS Connect!

Here we'll share curated news, trends, and resources compiled for state and local governments across the U.S.

For our first issue, we want to highlight the impressive work of one of our partner communities in Arizona (that just so happens to be the host of this year's Super Bowl).

Regardless of where your agency is located, these best practices apply to any government agency looking to address community concerns around short-term rentals (STRs).

Glendale, AZ Creates a Plan for Short-Term Rentals Ahead of Super Bowl LVII

"There’s no one person at the city level who understands every nuance of STR regulation so putting together a team of everyone who has an interest was paramount for us." —Rick St. John, Deputy City Manager

In our recent live event about STR trends in Arizona, we were joined by two guests from the City of Glendale: Feroz Merchhiya, Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer, and Rick St. John, Deputy City Manager.

As the host of the 2023 Super Bowl, Glendale was on a particularly tight schedule to find and implement software to help mitigate the impacts of STRs in time for the big event.

Both guests took the time to share their perspectives on planning and implementing an STR solution, placing a heavy emphasis on the importance of collaborating with all stakeholders.

"When you collaborate, you get a solution that works for everyone and benefits the city as a whole, which should always be the goal since it’s the best use of taxpayer dollars."
