Interview Questions that you need not answer in an Interview

In two of my previous blogs, I had mentioned how you want to go on a Job hunting spree, and how you will be encountering many tough situations that will be easy as well as hard. Employers will be rarely coming across as intellectuals most of the time and they may disguise a question in such a way that you may not know how to begin. You may encounter questions in all levels and you must be prepared to face the best and the worst. They may rarely come right out and ask about your age and ethnicity during interviews but you will see many aspects of them here on this blog.

6) Have you been treated for any ailments? How is your health condition etc.?

Employers, in general, are not allowed to ask about our current as well as past health conditions, how many days of leave have we taken in our last job, whether we smoke or drink. They have the right to ask about our ability to perform basic duties, however. When you encounter this question you can simply state that you will be able to perform all the essential functions of the job and that you can meet with the company’s non smoking policy.

If you have undergone any major gaps due to some ailment make sure you specify as to what you did in that period and how you utilized yourself by taking up workday online training etc. right at home. If you have any major ailments and need to visit the doctor or regular basis then make sure you tell him or her that you will be taking leaves in between and will they give you permission to do that. Some employers may tell you to take mandatory health check-up before joining.

7) Are you a native English speaker? Will you be able to communicate with external clients?

Most of the employers cannot ask you for your nation of origin and whether you know English. They can evaluate your communication skills and refuse to hire you due to a lack of fluency. This cannot happen as an employer must show a legitimate, non discriminatory reason too as to why they have turned you down too. The best way to respond to this is to ignore some parts of the question and make sure that you offer examples of situations where you have been able to successfully communicate with external stakeholders. You can give examples of how you managed to charm the clients by the way you work and that your communication skills are spot on.

Last but not the least while most of the employment laws are federal it may vary from state to state and country to country. Therefore you will be consulting an attorney too in case you want to file a charge if you feel that you have been discriminated against. Make sure you take a call and join an organization after taking all these things into mind. And we wish you all success in your job search.
