An interview with my Director
Tell me a bit about how you originally came into the recruitment industry?
"I was working as a business to business sales executive for about 4 years prior to recruitment. My career was going really well and after buying my first house at the age of 20, I set a new target to buy a classic Jaguar e-type convertible. I had always set myself goals and I genuinely thought this was achievable. This was the goal I set myself and I knew that what I was taking home after tax in the IT hardware industry meant I would have needed to save up for over 5 years. I wanted to develop a career where I wasn’t just selling products but where I could sell solutions or offer a service that people would purchase off me not because I was the cheapest, but because I offered the best service. I walked into my local Reed recruitment branch and within an hour of consultation, my interviewer revealed she was the regional director for Reed and wanted to offer me the job as a recruitment consultant. The rest was history. I signed on the dotted line and within 9 months won newcomer of the year ahead of 40 people all over the UK. After 5 years in recruitment I finally bought my e-type".
What pushed you to go out on your own and form MBA?
"I genuinely wanted to change the perception of the Rec2Rec industry and felt I could make more money opening my own firm. I was billing more than my director at the time and was confident in my ability and felt I could do a better job on my own"
What would you say separates you from other Rec2Recs?
"We are honest, confidential but most of all offer options that stand out from our competitors. Almost all of our clients are now exclusive or have retained us as we have had proven success with them since starting up. As we don’t negotiate our fee rate all our clients are on the same rate so that we don’t need to be biased when helping recruiters with their options. We also go that extra mile to meet people out of work hours and on weekends to ensure 100% confidentiality for all parties involved".
Why do you think your clients pick to use you over some of your main competitors?
"We are a hungry bunch of individuals who are proactive in our market not reactive. We aren’t on job boards and we get candidates exclusively who aren’t looking elsewhere. We have gained good relationships with our clients worldwide and continue to get repeat business due to previous success".
What motivates you in life and in work?
"I always set myself goals. From cars, houses and watches, I always want something new. My next goal is to pay for my wedding in Italy taking place on Lake Como in May 2018".
Where do you see MBA being in 5 years time?
"We have some exciting growth plans over the next 5 years. As many of our clients have offices in London and in the midlands, the plan is to open 2 more offices in the UK with over 15 more hires across the business so we can cater for more clients and candidates across the UK".
Love the passion and motivation! Great read!!
