Internet of Things - My View

Internet of Things(IoT) has become a buzz word of today with technology communities across the world. IoT is one of the key driver of Digital Transformation across Industries at all levels not just to build a sustained business model but also to enhance customer experience. It has become very normal to see people at all levels, students, experienced professionals showing great interest in not just understanding & learning what IoT is but also to actively engage and be a part of the journey to realize value. While there are many such trending technologies in town, the focus here is on IoT for, this is such a technology that encompass most of other key technologies (Core & New Age) within itself.

What is IoT? When asked a technologist, one version of answer may be "IoT is the concept of connecting to any worldly Thing and communicate with it exchanging critical information's and control's. The data exchanged can then be aggregated and made sense by analyzing them applying various methods and techniques like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning(ML) and take appropriate action on that Thing and hence improve the life and performance of entire system". This process can be applied to any Thing at any scale rite from a single light bulb designed to turn off when Sun rises up in the morning to a complex cluster of high tech machines in a manufacturing facility working together without manual intervention what so ever. 

While each individual technologies involved in IoT setup is not new, the opportunities that IoT open-up is made possible with recent advancements in these supporting technologies and availability of cheap & reliable Devices, Connectivity Options, Cloud based storage & Infrastructure. With technology becoming more and more powerful & affordable every day, participation & development of us is increasing rapidly and hence opportunities to create new possibilities and point of views. 

Benefits: IoT as a concept offers tremendous benefits in real world with potential to solve problem from simple day to day tasks like switching ON/OFF an Air Conditioner to save electricity and improved life of the product to solving major community problems like Traffic regulation, Season based farming, Industrial automation based on AI, continuously improving products design based on feedback, Health Care, and so on that the application is only limited by use cases one can think of. One can argue that IoT is nothing more than a new buzz word referring to advancements happening around the world for quite some time. Which is not false though this "Buzz" word in my opinion is driving economic growth and have potential to bring in disruptive change to the way we operate every day.

I strongly believe that our ancestors owned tremendous technologies that we cannot even imagine of and IoT is one such technology they must have already mastered but lost for some reason with time and return back to the very primitive lifestyle that we are aware of in the known past.

I am excited to be a part of this journey in exploring technologies to bring in new possibilities and opportunities and hence improve human life and reach of technologies to every common human and beyond.
