The Importance of Having a Routine

Read a wonderful quote a few days back which says “You can’t control most of the things in life, but you can control your WILL to succeed. If you are willing to do whatever it takes, you will”.

For almost more than a month, we have been in our homes due to COVID-19, the situation nobody had ever imagined. Earlier before that everyone had a certain routine. Children going to school, adults going to the office, home keepers in the maintenance of the house, looking after kids, groceries, cleaning, cooking, etc.

When I started with my initial days of working from home, I felt like where my day has gone. I felt amidst cooking, cleaning, office and other chores, I was unable to manage my time. I ended up with the feeling that I wasted my day completely. I was even able to do fewer things than before and each passing day was full of disappointment. Few days passed, a friend of mine suggested to write down a list of things you want to accomplish on day to day basis and I was like ‘Am I a kid to write down these things also on daily basis’.

Just to give her opinion a thought, I started to maintain a diary (which I have been trying to follow from years but failed). I write pointers to what I exactly need to accomplish on a daily basis and check twice if I am on track.

My activities included a few things like:

-       Official worklist

-       1 professional learning goal(it can be fixed or continuous, depends)/ 30 min- 1 hour

-       Taking good care of your health (includes exercises and good food)

-       Chanting(Meditating)/ 30 min

-       Reading books/ 30 min

-       Reading one article a day on Medium/Quora/ 10 min

-       Spend time with loved once. Play indoors games with kids or even your parents (like Ludo)

All the above activities which I chose for myself gave me the vision to grow and stay focused. One best thing which I could analyze after following my routine is that I became more disciplined and I don’t have time for unnecessary things. I get less attracted to social media because my focus has changed to following my plan instead of doing surfing/sleeping.

The above set of activities will obviously vary for all of us but the important thing is to try achieving the list you decided for yourself. As long as you are trying you will definitely WIN.

A famous quote says “Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most”.

I have made my daily routine, will you?
