Idol & Icon

Idol & Icon

Buddha, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee was God, an idol and an icon. And so are Michael Jordan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikant, Madhuri Dixit and Sachin Tendulkar to so many of us.

This propels me to express my thought here that there is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships be it an idol or an icon.

My work schedule does not often permit me time to visit temples, but my conversations with God don't depend on idol worship. Inside my heart, I have developed and sustained a direct communication with Him.

The only choice we get is what to worship. Some apply ceremonial marks to their foreheads, hold rosary beads in their hands, and wear religious robes.

Sure!  as stated by David Foster Wallace, the  available alternative is unconsciousness, the default setting, the "rat race" — the constant, gnawing sense of having and fear of losing some infinite things.

Needless to say that it may not be the best choice to make.

Being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience will help you to shape up your life.

It is about simple awareness — awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, that we have to keep reminding ourselves, over and over.

According to me its HUMANITY!!! And this is what all the icons that I am aware of have been doing in their lives.

Snoop Dog once said while commenting about The 'American Idol' and 'X Factor' shows as great shows.  He further stated ‘’ I think I need to make a show like that, for the artists that don't get the attention, that don't have the money to make themselves representable’’.

Yes! It’s about creating opportunities for the deserving and… To love the one who loves you, To admire the one who admires you. In short words, to be the idol of one's idol is exceeding the limit of human joy; It is the state of Being there.

The idol of today pushes the icon of yesterday out of our recollection; and will, in turn, be supplanted by his successor of tomorrow.
