How Really Big Will The Master Trust Shake Up Be? - Find Out Here

The Pension Schemes Act 2017 received Royal Assent on 27th April, shortly before Parliament dissolved. So unlike items such as the Money Purchase Annual Allowance and the Pensions Advice Allowance, which didn’t make it through “wash-up”, we know this one is definitely happening!

What lies ahead of us is the biggest shake up for Master Trusts since Robert Maxwell fell off his boat. If you are running a master trust then you have to go cap in hand to TPR for authorisation, and if you don’t, then you’re committing a criminal offence.

And unlike the old applications for getting a pension scheme authorised at HMRC, this is going to involve a full and proper examination of many aspects of your Master Trust before a decision is reached. The trustees must be demonstrably fit and proper, the business plan must be genuinely viable, the member communications top notch and you’ll even need an exit plan, so that members can be safely parachuted out in the event that at some point in the future TPR think you are about to crash.

Naturally you will need lots of money too, but I think that will be the easy part once you’ve looked at all the hurdles you have to jump.

So TISA have gathered a number of experts in the master trust arena together for a breakfast seminar. Plus of course the regulator, in the form of Vicky Holmes who is policy lead at TPR for implementing all of this. We are delighted that, because the legislation has been passed, Vicky is still able to come and talk with us despite the dreaded “purdah” that has caused many events in the election period to be abandoned.

If you want to get ahead of the game, come and join us for breakfast on Wednesday June 7th, at the Central London offices of our kind hosts Legal & General, a company with over 30 year’s experience of running Master Trusts.
