How to install Tawk.to widget through GTM

Chat apps on websites are starting to pop up nowadays. There's reason for that - it works! Yes, it might increase your conversion rate more than you think.

Live chats, chat widgets, chat plugins or whatever you want to call them, they work. They form an instant bond with your potential customer and really help increase the trustworthiness of your website. In addition, - from the business operator's point of view - having a set-up system, that lets you instantly reach people that want to hear more about your product and service is extremely powerful.

And let's not forget! They are awesome, colorful and not annoying if set up properly. Let me show you how you can get a live chat installed on your website for free, yes totally free.

Navigate to Tawk.to and sign up.

Moreover, go through the setup process. Sadly, they do not have Norwegian as a set language yet, however, I am pretty sure it will come soon. At step number four, choose WordPress and copy the code.

PS: They do have other options as well. Like integrations with Magento, Shopify etc. However I prefer doing it through Google Tag Manager regardless.

Furthermore, go to Google Tag Manager (GTM) and do the following:

Create a new Tag, choose custom HTML. And past the copied code into the empty field, as shown below:

After you have pasted the code, set a trigger. Most likely wou would like it to fire on all pages. If you would like it to fire on for instance: only the front-end of the website, then set a condition.

Then navigate to the Preview and debug mode, as shown in the picture below:

Go to your website and check if the widget is showing. It should be in the lower right corner of your website. Press it and see if it's clickable.

If the tag is firing properly, is clickable and is not slowing down the website speed and causing lag - publish the tag.

PS: You might want to customize the layout, color and remove branding in step number 5. This will allow for a much better user experience nad aesthetic look on your website.
