How Could LEDs Save Energy While They Give Out Lots of Heat

Recently, I’ve been asked, how could LEDs save energy while they give out lots of heat?

It’s better to conduct an accurate analysis of energy consumption to explain this question, now I try to start with two aspects.

1. Lighting effect is an important index.

Table 1 is a luminous efficacy data of varieties of light sources. Obviously, LED has a certain superiority in that, which means the ability of electric energy translating into light energy is better than other traditional light sources, plus the advantage of the FTP, LED’s luminous efficiency is the highest one.

2. The direction of the LED is an important characteristic

The structure of LED is different from the traditional light source. Cause of its luminous with a certain direction, lights of LED will focus on illuminated surface, hence, the efficiency will also be increased. However, the beam angle of traditional light sources are close to 360 degrees, if you want to control the light of them, you’ll have to add reflectors, and the efficiency of the light source will be heavily discounted.

Therefore, the overall efficiency of LED is much higher than all those traditional lights.
