Hour of Code: Did You Participate?
The “Hour of Code™” is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.
Computers are everywhere, imbedded within and changing every industry. But fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. If you've heard about the Hour of Code before, you may know more than 100 million students around the globe have participated in Hour of Code.
As near as I can tell, within the US Florida had the most formal registered Hour of Code events. I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in one by our local Dunbar High School where I programmed Minecraft alongside a classroom of students - some new to coding and some adding finishing touches to programs they’ve been working on for some time. Who knows, the next time you or your child encounters wild chickens within Minecraft, they may be executing my code ;-) … Share what you’ve been doing to get the next generation of our workforce interested in Technology!
Great stuff. My kids both did 2 "hour of code" sessions!
