Having an all India Common Engineering Entrance Exam is not a good idea

Many burning problems in engineering HE are put in one basket. One common entrance to all has brought a very limited success. Some of the outcomes are: there is divide: haves and haves-not, parallel coaching classes economy is flourishing, rural students that constitutes over 60% are at disadvantage, no employment, many colleges opt for closing, non-affordable fees, reduced admissions, ROI on investment (of Rs 10 lakhs or so) is inadequate, number game (we boast the largest number of students appearing for one single exam), etc.Internship for all students is a Herculean task, how many students we could place so far every year? Those who are on internship, what is about their quality of training? Are faculty and institutes ready to meet this challenge in the absence of any sound mechanism in most of the colleges?Curriculum is the safest excuse for all ills. to reason out. But what are the BOS, DAB, etc., doing? Why most of the engineering institutes opt for NAAC and not for NBA? Does NAAC accreditation mean international recognition? Does the public know it? Why not have to more than 10-15 NGOs for accreditation? What is wrong if students are admitted on the basis the marks obtained in 12th Std Exam. held by State Boards? Are not State-Board Exams reliable?
For institutes of national importance or Eminence Institutes, one common test may be conducted keeping fees very high so that number of candidates can be reduced. Such institutes hardly admit 10% of total students.
The best way let these institutes revert to the PG admission process followed in IITs in mid-80, students can directly apply to them and IITs will select students based on 12 std marks in proportion to the applications received from university wise areas. This will save valuable resources of the nation of thousands of crore Rs plus tension free students and parents. Faculty and institute will have to stick to Quality assurance of education.Half-heart change leads to only chaos.
