Hashicorp Terraform Associate Certification Exam Preparation
In this article, I would like to share my thoughts on 'Hashicorp Terraform Certification' and how I had prepared for the exam.
Why had I taken 'Hashicorp Terraform Certification'?
Terraform is our primary IaC tool. Our team spends most of our time automating building Infrastructure using Terraform.
I have been actively using Terraform for the past 1.5 years. There were some Terraform concepts that I had used in my code without clearly understanding why a particular Terraform feature/concept was required or used. I wanted to understand the critical features of Terraform in-depth. And at the same time, I wanted to write better and cleaner Terraform code than I was writing currently.
Preparation Time
I had started preparing for Terraform certification for appx one month back, out of which the initial two weeks were spent reaching the exam and casually skimming the exam documentation. Last two weeks before the exam, I had aggressively spent 5-6 hrs after work reading Terraform official documentation in depth.
How did I prepare for the exam?
I read the official documentation first for any certification, and Terraform is not different. For Terraform certification, Terraform documentation is the best resource. Hashicorp has done an excellent job documenting the required materials for preparing for Hashicorp Terraform certification. Below is the order I had prepared for the exam
Is the exam challenging?
It depends on the experience and score you are trying to achieve. If you plan to get a passing score of 70%. It is an easy exam. But if you plan to score more than 90%, it might be tricky and need real-world experience.
Experience with PSI and taking the exam from home
In my view, Taking a certification exam at the test center is less hassle. Taking any exam is stressful, and taking an exam from home adds additional stress. When you take the exam at home, you need to prep your room, make sure the exam works on your laptop, and even when you run all system checks, the exam might launch on your exam day.

I had made sure all PSI system checks were passing on the laptop I planned to use on exam day, but unfortunately, my exam didn't launch on the exam day. I had called the PSI call center, and even they couldn't understand the issue, so they had rescheduled the exam to the next day.

Conclusion
Kudos to the Hashicorp team for clearly defining the goals of the exam and providing relevant official documentation.
For anyone taking the exam, enjoy the journey of preparing for the exam. Don't stress too much about passing the exam; it's okay to fail. I studied for the exam the best I could, but at the same time, I was personally ready to fail the exam. We can learn more when we fail the exam.
I plan to publish a couple of articles on essential concepts I learned for the exam.
