Gurugram to Get a Major Infrastructure Boost: Elevated Corridor from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 Announced
In a significant step towards easing traffic congestion and enhancing urban connectivity, Gurugram is set to witness the construction of a six-lane elevated corridor stretching from Vatika Chowk to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-48). This ambitious infrastructure development is part of a broader effort by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to streamline traffic flow in the city, reduce bottlenecks, and improve access to major highways including the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), a key arterial route connecting various parts of the city, currently faces frequent traffic jams, particularly around intersections where signalized crossings slow down the commute. Presently, there are four major traffic signals along this stretch, contributing to regular traffic snarls during peak hours. With the construction of the elevated corridor, commuters can expect a signal-free travel experience, cutting down travel time significantly while also reducing vehicular pollution caused by prolonged idling.
This elevated corridor will not only revamp the existing infrastructure but also enhance interconnectivity among key routes. As part of the plan, the GMDA will construct an interchange at Vatika Chowk, linking the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Highway with NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway. This development will allow seamless access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, providing a faster and more convenient route for long-distance travelers and logistics operations.
To kickstart the project, GMDA has initiated the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor. The DPR will guide the strategic planning, engineering, and financial feasibility of the project. An estimated budget of ₹750 crore has been allocated for the construction of the elevated corridor, with an additional ₹9.65 crore earmarked for the reconstruction and upgradation of the existing SPR stretch from Vatika Chowk to NH-48.

According to Arun Dhankhar, Chief Engineer at GMDA, the construction is expected to commence within this year and is projected to be completed within two years. Once operational, this corridor will significantly ease the traffic burden not just for daily commuters in Gurugram, but also for freight and transit vehicles traveling between key economic corridors.
This initiative underscores the city’s evolving urban infrastructure landscape and reflects a proactive approach to addressing the growing demands of one of India’s fastest-developing metropolitan regions. As Gurugram continues to expand both residentially and commercially, such projects will play a crucial role in supporting sustainable urban mobility and improving quality of life for its residents.
