Genius Sports unveils revolutionary 3D immersive analysis technology with Performance Studio update
Genius Sports Limited (“Genius Sports”) yesterday unveiled a first-of-its-kind, immersive 3D replay technology to transform how football coaches analyse and develop player performance, in a major update to its video analysis platform, Performance Studio.
Genius Sports’ game-changing advancement will enable coaches and analysts to step into their players’ shoes during critical match moments, seeing exactly what a striker sees before taking a shot, how a midfielder assesses passing options or what defensive positioning looks like from a goalkeeper’s perspective.
This latest innovation from Genius Sports represents a significant breakthrough in performance analysis, providing unprecedented insights previously impossible to capture and review. GeniusIQ, Genius Sports’ next generation sports data and AI platform, processes millions of mesh tracking data points to build a real-time understanding of live action and power 3D recreations or “digital twins” of the game.

“At the highest level of football, coaches and analysts are always looking for the next insight or breakthrough to give them a winning edge,” said Matt Fleckenstein, Chief Product Officer at Genius Sports. “The Performance Studio is an incredible platform that puts an analyst in the boots of a player during the most important moments of a match, enabling them to see exactly what the player did to improve their future decision making and make those crucial marginal gains.”
The Performance Studio is an evolution of the world-renowned Second Spectrum video analysis software, which set the standard for data-driven performance analysis. Genius Sports acquired Second Spectrum in 2021 and has fully integrated its suite of coaching tools which are now used by teams across the Premier League, EFL Championship, France Ligue 1 & 2, Belgian Pro League, Danish Superliga and UEFA.
