Gender equality regresses after the world goes through crises.
I will not apologize for being a feminist!
Gentlemen it doesn’t mean I dislike you; it means I’m on my guards when the words ‘’mistress’’ and ‘’stripper’’ are used in a business setting as recently as a few months ago!
Indeed, having these types of very weak analogies in your discourse sends me a clear message on your views of the role of women in the world at large.
Do we have a company culture problem? I do think so. And when I called them up on it, I was perceived as a little witch😊 Really????
Do future generations of women and LGBTQ deserve this discourse? Absolutely not.
It’s also well known and backed by research that every time the world goes through a crisis, such as the current pandemic, women take a few back steps in our ascension towards gender equality. The darn top of the mountain keeps moving higher up!
Bottom line, any grounds WE MAY HAVE GAINED in the last few years are simply washed away; it’s quite disconcerting.
So, when a young intelligent professional lady reaches out to me as she utilizes this period of confinement to introspect on how she can better address and manage these often times toxic IT operational environments that are still very much male dominated, I’m there for her. I would like for her to have a successful career in the IT industry without having to go through this nonsense and still crying in her sixties as she has endured these disgraceful behaviours since early in her carreer.
Does this qualify me as a feminist; you betcha!
She’s actually taking this time to introspect on how to be better at her job!
Gentlemen do you get my point here? Take this time of pause to introspect on how you can become better colleagues with your female counterparts.
