Gartner: IT Leaders Should Employ Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile to Power Up Their Organizations

The way we work is changing; the COVID-19 pandemic led to a widespread normalization of remote work. According to Gartner , prior to pandemic, most workers preferred a more-human approach including the traditionally site-based workers considered “frontline.”

However, “many organizations struggled to support their communication needs across a mix of hybrid scenarios — including mobile and remote work.”

The IT research and consulting firm says that in the current scenario, with nearly 80 million monthly active users, Microsoft Teams Phone is the most common way that enterprises enable their employees to connect.

Most of these organizations have a mobile device with its own calling plan, alongside Microsoft Teams Phone. In March 2022, Microsoft announced Teams Phone Mobile that allows a single phone number to be used across multiple devices to strengthen hybrid work for Microsoft Teams.

“With Teams Phone Mobile, enterprises can reduce costs by eliminating the redundancy of different PSTN numbers with calling plans for voice and Teams connectivity,” Gartner says.

The solution is now available in Canada from Rogers Business.

Gartner’s 2021 Digital Workplace Experience Survey shows that Gen Z or Millennial digital workers spend 29% of their time working on a smartphone or on tablet devices.

Teams Phone Mobile also gives workforces the flexibility to step away from the laptop knowing that, if a call is missed on Teams, then it will fall back on the mobile phone’s native dialer. If workers receive a call on the mobile native dialer, they can seamlessly uplift the call to a Teams call or meeting — all without dropping a call.

It is recommended that infrastructure and operations leaders responsible for endpoint strategies and unified communications in a digital workplace should pilot Teams Phone Mobile.

Gartner recommends piloting Teams Phone Mobile in your organization to:

  • Remove the duplication from PSTN-enabled unified communications as a service (UCaaS) and a corporate-issued mobile device;
  • Reduce international, long-distance and intracompany mobile call costs for remote and frontline workers.

As frontline or hybrid workers rely on their mobile phones to get work done on-site, at home and on the go, another consideration would be to deploy this solution to these user segments that would benefit most from a converged voice system with improved user experience.
