From Cleaning to Salesforce Consulting: My Unlikely Ascent into the World of Tech Part 1

From Cleaning to Salesforce Consulting: My Unlikely Ascent into the World of Tech Part 1

Looking back, my journey feels less like a straight line and more like a winding path, each step etched with unique lessons. In 2020, as the world grappled with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself on the front lines as a cleaner in a public hospital. Every day was a testament to human resilience and the quiet dignity of service. It was a demanding time, often filled with anxieties, but it forged within me an unshakeable sense of purpose and a profound appreciation for the fragility and preciousness of life.

The following year, I transitioned to driving for a non-profit, connecting with individuals and communities and witnessing firsthand the power of compassion in action. This role nurtured my empathy and reinforced my belief in the importance of giving back. Yet, deep within, a quiet yearning for something more that would challenge me in new ways began to stir.

Then came July 2022 – a turning point. I took a leap of faith and embarked on a journey into the world of Salesforce, focusing on Administration and Consultancy. It felt like stepping into a completely different universe filled with possibilities I had only just begun to imagine.

This transformation wouldn't have been possible without the incredible human connections I've made along the way. My network has been more than just professional contacts; it's been a lifeline of encouragement, guidance, and unwavering belief. There were moments of doubt, moments when the learning curve felt steep, but the voices of my mentors and peers, both online and offline, lifted me. They saw potential in me that I was only beginning to recognize in myself.

It's humbling to realize how skills honed in seemingly disparate roles have paved my way. The meticulousness required to maintain a sterile environment in a hospital now translates into a commitment to data integrity and precision in Salesforce. The navigational skills I developed as a driver now help me map out complex business processes and design intuitive solutions for clients. And the empathy I cultivated in both roles allows me to truly understand the challenges our clients face and build solutions that resonate with their needs.

My journey is deeply intertwined with a desire to pay it forward. The support I’ve received has ignited a passion within me to mentor others, especially women and individuals from non-traditional backgrounds who are considering a tech career. Sharing my story, with all its vulnerabilities and triumphs, is my way of saying, "If I can do it, so can you."

The world of Salesforce is dynamic and ever-evolving, and my commitment to continuous learning is fueled by a genuine curiosity and a deep respect for the power of knowledge. The global Salesforce community has welcomed me with open arms, offering a space for collaboration, growth, and shared passion. These connections, spanning continents, have enriched my understanding and broadened my perspective in ways I couldn't have imagined.

My story is a testament to the fact that our paths are not always linear and that every experience, even the most challenging ones, can equip us with valuable tools and insights. It’s a heartfelt reminder that with courage, perseverance, the unwavering support of your network, and a willingness to learn, you can rewrite your narrative and reach for dreams that once seemed impossible.

If you're on your unconventional journey, know that your experiences are valuable. Embrace them, nurture your connections, and never stop believing in the power of your potential.

Part 2 is coming up soon, and this is where I will share in detailthe doors my Salesforce career has opened for me!
