An Epic step to further improve care and efficiencies

Exciting news! As reported by Canadian Healthcare Technology, in another step to improve patient care across the region, the Atlas Alliance’s digital health records system will be welcoming six new partner hospitals. These include:

  • Arnprior Regional Health
  • Glengarry Memorial Hospital
  • Hôpital Montfort
  • Pembroke Regional Hospital
  • Queensway Carleton Hospital
  • The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (Ottawa and Brockville campuses)

Each of these hospitals are expected to be onboarded by Fall 2026 and once completed, 16 health care organizations in total throughout Eastern Ontario will be able to access patient information seamlessly between campuses. Dr. Virginia Roth , Chief of Medical Staff at The Ottawa Hospital speaks to the benefits:

“Patients often visit multiple hospitals throughout the region, for varying levels of care. Now, they won’t need to worry about their care teams having the most up-to-date information on their health situation.”

Thorough, consistent, and easily-accessed patient information improves patient-care and efficiencies. A win-win! We are reshaping the future of healthcare.

An update on the new campus development

On March 27th, Tim Kluke , President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation , joined Joanne Read , Executive Vice-president and Chief Planning and Development Officer for The Ottawa Hospital , and Tony Cook , Project Director, PCL Construction, to give a presentation on the new campus development at the Merkley Supply Limited (MSL) trade show.

As reported in Ontario Construction News, they explained that the new campus project is not just about constructing a new building; it’s about reimagining how healthcare is delivered. The Ottawa Hospital aims to provide proactive and preventative care, leveraging an integrated healthcare data system to improve care coordination across the region. The goal is to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, and at the right time, with seamless transitions between hospital and home.

Joanne Read further emphasized the incredible research being done at The Ottawa Hospital and cited the advancements in stroke treatment as an example of the world-renowned work happening in Ottawa. She also highlighted key design aspects of the new campus explaining how it will prioritize patient experience, accessibility, sustainability, and technology integration.

Design plans are to be finalized by November, with construction of the hospital building to start shortly after that in Spring 2026. Work on the parking garage and ground work on the site is well underway.

Our Foundation's immersive event for Next Gen supporters

As reported by Caroline Phillips in Caroline in the Capital, last week The Ottawa Hospital Foundation hosted a fun and informative event at the Skills and Simulation Centre, located on the grounds of The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus. Sponsored by RBC , it was all part of our Next Gen Program, aimed to engage our next generation of supporters.

An immersive experience, attendees were guided by healthcare professionals through a series of simulations that mimicked real-life scenarios. Also in attendance was Ginger Bertrand, Co-chair for our Campaign to Create Tomorrow, and passionate advocate for engaging our young leaders.

“We’re not just fundraising for bricks and mortar; we’re actually laying the foundation for the kind of care we want for ourselves, our parents, our children, and our future children.”

Our young leaders are the future of healthcare and engaging events such as these allow us to inspire the next generation to make a difference. Together, we are creating a better tomorrow!

In 2023, RBC announced its $2.25 million gift to The Ottawa Hospital — its largest-ever donation in the region — to support the education and skills development for healthcare professionals.

John! I loved the Skills and Simulation Centre concept. It is such a great XM way to connect people with the needs of the foundation. Kudos again for taking that bolder step.
