Emerging Business within Data and Artificial Intelligence Environment

Emerging Business within Data and Artificial Intelligence Environment

In a recent talk entitled “Emerging Business within Data and Artificial Intelligence Environment”, some business opportunities around data and AI were discussed, together with factors impacting the take up of AI which also provide business opportunities. Please enjoy some aspects.

Business to be Realised

Aspects covered, which are reinforced by recent events, include:

  • Data centre ownership and sovereignty.
  • Ownership, sovereignty, and investments in data needed and for AI.
  • Control of LLM and algorithms by a business.
  • Integration of AI types for outcomes.
  • Role of benchmark testing.
  • Impacts of quantum computing.
  • Skilling, Training, Accreditation, Certification services.
  • The related service and operations from data to audit.

The Opportunity

I had the privilege and pleasure of recently doing a guest lecture at Amity University (https://www.amity.edu/) online to a diverse range of students. entitled “Emerging Business within Data and Artificial Intelligence Environment”. Some of the emerging areas and business opportunities around AI and data were discussed. More important than talking about trends and opportunities, was that I got to engage in extended Q&A and discussions from future leaders and entrepreneurs in a mixed audience. The opportunities and challenges were similar with familiar areas raised.

What was Discussed

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within business continues at pace, but with varying benefits and outcomes. From mining and logistics operations to entry into a country, AI such as IVR, Chatbots, Robotics, and Imaging is being integrated into business operations. Such use is often embedded within applications and devices and is transparent to many users. It is the integration of AI types with the required systems alignment which is need for business. Generative AI is seeing large scale investments, but the business benefits and ROI are still to be realised. While markets will drive the uptake and returns from AI, the role of government policy and regulatory regimes is expected to influence AI adoption as much as AI will influence governments. The requirements for data centre sovereignty and supply impacts the business integration of AI. The ownership and management of data (including access, permissions, provisions, supply, continuity, and assurance) is of significant impact to business because NO Data = NO AI, Bad Data = Bad AI and the risk management necessary of having AI as a user of data. For the protection of a business or for the servicing of its customers, a business needs to have control of its LLMs and algorithms. These and other business trends impacting the integration of AI are considered within this presentation.

A full suite of slides is made available, though the use of the slides varied in session according to need and conversation.

Additional Takeaways

Business opportunities were discussed and NO investment advice was provided. The opportunities have been considered in other posts. Of the many take outs from the questions and conversations, some themes resonated:

  • Recognising the Future – The audience was well tuned to the opportunities and challenges. From discussing of changes to agriculture and legal around AI and data, through to the importance of sovereignty, a firm grasp of issues was shared. What was sought was clarity in direction and valuing the opportunities.
  • Importance of Having Leadership – The need for leadership and decision making within government, businesses, and educational institutions was a recurring theme. The sense of a void and the uncertainty created was a common concern. The lack of responses seen by management was noted.
  • Changing Roles – Recognition of changes in roles and opportunities was discussed. Being told that “entry level developer roles were likely to be automated” was known. The need was for what is replacing routine low level coding (e.g. the greater role of testing, debugging, and requirements understanding) and what skills are needed (e.g. governance, regulatory and compliance, risk management, stakeholder management, data services, technology operations and services, the business changes in processes and operations, having business readiness and more are required).
  • The Human Factor – A strong recognition of the human factor and the impacts within data and AI was discussed. The hype and the reality was recognised.

Similar themes are seen in other talks and related engagements. When ready, we look forward to providing more details and how can we help?

I wrote about this in a recent piece on the intersection of AI governance and cultural readiness — especially how leadership and trust shape adoption outcomes. Great reflections — particularly the focus on sovereignty, leadership voids, and the need for systems thinking in how we integrate AI. From a risk perspective, what stood out most for me was the recognition of human and organizational readiness. We talk about AI governance, but without clear leadership, shared accountability, and psychological safety, even the best frameworks falter. We often say “bad data = bad AI” — but equally, weak culture = weak adoption. Thanks for sharing these timely insights.
