In today's fast-paced digital landscape, employees often bypass official IT channels to adopt tools and solutions that promise convenience and efficiency. This phenomenon, known as Shadow IT, has long been a thorn in the side of organizational security. But now, a new contender is amplifying the stakes: Shadow AI.

What is Shadow AI? While Shadow IT involves unauthorized hardware and software, Shadow AI refers to the unapproved adoption of AI tools, platforms, or models by individuals or teams. Whether it’s employees using free AI chatbots to streamline workflows or departments experimenting with unsanctioned machine learning models, Shadow AI is spreading rapidly—and it’s raising serious concerns.
