Data Analytics Skills that Business Undergraduate Students should have

We at the Department of Operations and ITM of the Chaifetz School of Business, Saint Louis University are in the process of restructuring our undergraduate majors so that we can teach more relevant skills and make our students ready for the industry. We offer programs related to Data Analytics and Enterprise Systems. Few days ago, we did a survey to a group of 27 data analytics experts on what are the key skills that data analytics business undergraduate students should possess (both now and in the future). Here are the results.

Top 5 Data Analytics Skills that business undergraduate students should possess

  1. R/Python - 15
  2. SQL - 14
  3. Tableau - 9
  4. MS Excel - 9
  5. Data Visualization - 8
  6. Statistics - 8
  7. Data Modeling - 4

Top 5 Data Analytics Skills that business undergraduate students should possess (in future)

  1. Machine Learning - 10
  2. AI - 6
  3. Cloud Technologies - 5
  4. Python/R - 5
  5. SQL - 5

Number indicates frequency of responses

We note that there will be a strong requirement of technical skills (programming and database) that our Business students should learn. We are in the process of fine tuning our courses to accommodate the above-mentioned skills.
